The Alvarez line stems from an exclusive relationship with Kazuo Yairi of Japan who's family represents more than 60 years of hand crafting fine acoustic guitars. Kazuo Yairi is the last luthier of his generation who continues to build guitars by hand! This attention to Quality, Detail and Tradition separates Alvarez from other acoustic guitar manufacturers.

I have a 1995 model found at a pawn shop, stamped "used" on back of headstock, repaired crack down below the bridge, dings and bings, but man what a sound! It has a built in pickup, but sounds excellent either way. Longer neck , so seems to be more distance between frets, but you get used to that. Beautifully crafted, sustain like crazy, projects effortlessly. I love this thing, my son wants it! Not real fancy , just basic design with some abalone inlay around the soundhole. Jumbo body, big and impressive. I have not tried baritone strings, I just use normal gauge elixirs and like the sound and action real well. The moment I picked up this guitar and played a few chords I was hooked, I occasionally go to the guitar center and play some of the expensive guitars they have in their acoustic room, and I have not found a single one that sounds any better (or sometimes as good!)as my YB1 does, no joke! If you can afford to have several guitars around, this one makes a nice addition to the collection.
